Today, at the 27th annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple has announced the most popular OS on the planet “iOS 10 “, which they like to call “Mother of all OS”. This major update brings a lot of new features and focuses on the improvement of overall user experience.
Here is list of all those 10 features of iOS 10:
1. Improved Lockscreen
iOS 10 now has a improved lockscreen. The OS will now wake while you lift your iPhone. The notifications on the lockscreen have been changed and are no longer darken and blur the entire lockscreen. Also, the user can now directly reply to the notifications from the lock screen with real time updates. Control Centre has been improved as well, it now supports a music widget that can be accessed by swiping to the side.
2. Siri’s voice API now open to third party developers
The biggest change in the iOS 10 is that Siri’s API has been opened for the developers, hence, SIri can now integrate with third party apps(like WhatsApp and WeChat). Siri can now be used to send text messages via Slack, initiate Skype and Vonage voice calls, authenticate transactions.
3. Quick Type
iOS 10 now enhances the keyboard as well. The keyboard can now give improved suggestions, and can get help from Siri too. The voice assistant can access current location, schedule automatic reminders, check your calendar, and now supports multilingual typing without needing to switch keyboard.

4. Enhanced Photos app
Photos app will now do a facial recognition using an advance technology, also it can differentiate between living and non-living objects in photos. Apart from this, photos app will now have a new option called “Memories”, this feature automatically categorizes related photos (e.g. those of a holiday, having family members, parties) and presents them in an interesting arranged layout.
5. Addition of third party extensions to Apple Maps
Apple Maps have got a new makeover and comes up with new features such as uggestions about everything from nearby restaurants to traffic updates. Turn-by-turn navigation UI has been improved, and can be zoomed in/out to find out what lies ahead. Apple Maps has been opened to third party developers, who can create extensions, with the help of the extension you can book rides, confirm dining reservations and much more without closing the app.
6. Music app with suggestions
Apple’s Music app gets a completely new design which now includes a ‘Downloaded Music’ section, also the new app can show song lyrics as well. The user can now sort the music in their preferred order.
7. News app
The News app was introduced last year and this time it has some minor tweaks like breaking news notifications and the App will also allow for Subscriptions from your favorite publications.
8. The New HomeKit app called “Home”
Apple now reframes it HomeKit framework app and comes up with a new app called ‘Home’. This app shows you all your connected smart devices, which can be controlled directly from the app, such as turning on/off the lights or dimming the brightness and as expected it can be controlled via the Apple Watch.
9. Voicemail transcription in Phone app
The Phone app has been updated and now includes a voicemail transcription. The new APIs help us add extra functions like identifying spam numbers. Also, the new phone app get VOIP support, i.e. there won’t be a small notification on the top rather there is a full fledged call for your VOIP calls.
10. Messages app
Messages app gets huge improvements like rich hyperlinks with previews, Shared videos which can be played directly in the app, emoji predictions, animated text bubbles, digital touch photos and quick replies. The Emoji feature allows you to convert words to Emoji. Emoji is also three times bigger in the new Messages app. Replies can now have effects too. You can also send handwritten messages. There are also full-screen effects. Apple has also opened up its iMessage app to developers. This would make possible to create animated stickers and GIFs, integrate Apple Pay and more.
Other features include Split View on the iPad to allow browsing two safari windows at the same time. You will get live photos editing, Conversation view on Mail and the whole ecosystem gets end to end encryption.
