Corning today announced the Gorilla Glass 5, next version of the Gorilla Glass 4 which was launched last year. “The Gorilla Glass 5 can survive up to 80% of the time when dropped facedown from 1.6 meters onto rough surfaces, far outperforming competitive glass designs,” says Corning. The Gorilla Glass 4 can survive only from 1 meter height in its lab tests.
With better toughness, it also remains the optical clarity, touch sensitivity and damage resistance. Corning Gorilla Glass has been used on more than 4.5 Billion devices worldwide, including more than 1,800 products across 40 major brands.
Key Points about Corning Gorilla Glass 5
- The new glass is 2x better in damage resistance compared to Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and up to 4x better compared to other glasses.
- Up to 1.8x better in drop performance on rough and uneven surfaces.
- Can survive up to 80% of the time from drops of 1.6 meters.
The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is now in production and we expected to be available on devices later this year.
