After a long wait Google finally released it’s statistics on the android’s market share around the globe. Android Lollipop’s market share is growing gradually, and is currently running on 18.1% of the smartphones. which is 6.5% more compared to Google’s earlier report which was released 2 months ago.
According to Google’s report, Android Lollipop 5.0 is exactly running on 15.5% smartphones whereas Android Lollipop 5.1 is running on 2.6% smartphones. The increase in the market share of lollipop is due to the launch of new smartphones in the market running on the latest OS. However, Android Lollipop is still far behind Apple’s IOS in adoption rate speed.
Also, the latest update of IOS 8.4 was released last month, and had captured 40% of devices in just 7 days. When compared to Android Lollipop, it has been 8 months since it’s released.
While Kitkat still rules the market with 39.3%, but point to be taken into consideration is that Kitkat’s share has only been increased by 0.1% within 2 months. Two months earlier, Kitkat was running on 39.2% of the smartphones.
As far as earlier versions of Android is concerned, Jelly Bean’s market dropped from 37.4% to 33.7%. Whereas, Ice Cream Sandwich also continued to fall from 5.1% to 4.1%, while Gingerbread also fell by 1% from 5.6% to 4.6%. Surprisingly, Froyo still exists on 0.3% of devices across the globe.
