Microsoft Xbox One S announced at E3 2016

At E3 2016 press conference, Microsoft wraps off the new Xbox One S gaming console. The next generation Xbox is 40 percent thinner comapred to the Xbox One. It comes with the improved hardware, which includes support for 4K video output, up to 2TB of internal hard drive, HDR playback for gaming and video, and also comes with a new slightly modified Bluetooth controller.

There are three USB ports and the pairing button to the front of the Xbox One S alongside the newly added IR blaster. The dedicated Kinect port has been removed from the back. Kinect for Xbox One will still be compatible with Xbox One S via the Xbox Kinect Adapter for USB connection and offers the same experiences as the current console. Microsoft is offering a free Xbox Kinect Adapter for fans that currently own a Kinect for Xbox One and plan to purchase the Xbox One S.

Moving on, the Xbox One S comes with a newly designed Xbox Wireless Controller that features a textured grip for enhanced comfort. Microsoft says that it has improved the Xbox Wireless signal performance to offer a more reliable wireless connection to the console and up to twice the wireless range when used with Xbox One S. The Xbox One S also comes with Bluetooth support. The controller features a new thumbstick design to help maintain accuracy and smooth rotation over the life of the controller.

The new Xbox One S will cost $299 (approximately Rs 20,500) for the 500GB variant and will be launched in August. There will also be a 1TB version for $349 (approximately Rs 23,900) as well as a limited launch edition with 2TB internal storage which will be priced at $399 (approximately Rs 27,200). Apart from this the new Xbox also include integrated power supply so that the slim profile of Xbox One S can be followed and an altered disc drive that will allow you to keep the console vertical.

It supports 4K video streaming and Microsoft has partnered with content from partners like Netflix and Amazon Video. Xbox One S also offers High Dynamic Range (HDR) support for video and gaming for richer and more luminous colors in games. The new console allows Xbox One and Windows 10 Players to play together. Microsoft also announced that Gears of War 4 will be one of the first games with Xbox anywhere cross-platform play support.

Hence, when you buy the game for Xbox, you get the Windows version for free, and it can be played across both on the gaming console and the PC. Gears of War 4 will be released on October 11. There will also be a Gear-branded Xbox Elite Wireless Controller to go along with the console. Forza Horizon 3 with four-player campaign mode also announced, and it will be available on September 16.

Microsoft will also let you customize the Xbox controllers, where users will be able to pick color for the front and back, the triggers, buttons and more. The console maker has also made a bunch of software-based announcements such as language region independence and Cortana for Xbox One. There is also Arena, a new tournament platform allowing users to play solo or with their friends.

Cross platform play for Minecraft Realms between iOS, Android, Windows 10 and Gear VR devices is also coming soon. The company has also announced that Minecraft has around 14 million players, globally.
